It had been 50 days since the Resurrection, 10 days since Jesus had ascended into heaven and the disciples were waiting together in prayer for the promise of the comforter, the promise of the Holy Spirit. They were in...

Rev. Merv LanctotSt. Andrews on the Red   St. Matthewsemail: pastor.standrewsonthered@gmail.comcell:  204 880-7727   Merv’s Musings This week we celebrate the Feast of the Ascension.  As Jesus ascends to the right hand of the Father, He says to his followers:  “Wait, I will send you the Holy Spirit who will give you Power from on High!”  So the disciples went up into the upper room and waited.  They waited 10 days for the gift of the Holy Spirit. Before the Resurrection, the disciples looked only at the problems they were faced with:  the death of their leader!  However after Pentecost, the disciples’ lives were...

It is the wonderful story of two travellers on the road to Emmaus. They encounter the risen Christ, who greets them with “Peace be with you”. Once again we hear this greeting of peace being extended to His followers. These followers were walking home in grief after loosing their leader and Jesus extends to them Peace!  It is a theme I have been reflecting on these past few...

Merv's Musings   They shouted  "Crucify him  crucify him!" Pilate asked  "Shall I crucify your King ?" The chief priests answered, "We have no king but the emperor." Then he handed him over to them to be crucified. So they took Jesus; and carrying the cross by himself, he went out to The Place of the Skull  There they crucified him and with him two others, one on either side with Jesus between them. Pilate also had an inscription written and put on the cross. It read "Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews. They shouted, "Crucify him.  Crucify him!" Pilate asked "Shall I crucify your King ?" The chief priests answered, "We have no king but the emperor." Then he handed him over to them to...

This year as we enter Holy week and think of Palm Sunday, as in everything else  these days, it will be different!  Normally we would be walking around the nave of the church singing Ride on, Ride On King Jesus; Blessed is he who come in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the Highest! Unfortunately this Sunday, St Andrews will be eerily silent. No triumphant entry into Jerusalem but rather directives of Isolate! Isolate! Isolate! as we journey towards the cross of Calvary. We find ourselves in a very different time. However, no matter the circumstance we find ourselves, God’s love...
